Regional Scholastics are Back!

Are you ready for fall? Because the Regional scholastic series tournaments are back. They are going to be held on Sundays for three months: August 26, September 30, and October 28, 2018.

Each tournament is a stand-alone tournament, and players can register for any one, two, or all three of the tournaments.

Special Prize:

Chess players with a combined score total of 10 points or more from this tournament series, will win an entry to the American Open for any section in the Scholastic Tournament!

Sections, Time Control, & Entry Fees:

There will be 4 sections for each of the tournament in the Regional Scholastic Chess Series. These are:

a. K-12 Open
b. K-12 under 1100
c. K-6 under 600
d. K-6 under 400

Time control is 30 minutes with 5-seconds delay per player, per round, and the entry fee is $35 ($45 on-site) for each of the tournament in this series. Discounts are available for players signing up for more than one tournament at the same time.

Registration is Now Open for the 2018 American Open Presented by ChessPalace

Are you ready for the American Open?

ChessPalace is pleased to announce that registration for our annual chess tournament, the American Open, is now available at http://www.americanopen.org. For our 54th year, ChessPalace will once again host our 2018 American Open chess championship at sunny Southern California. There will be two concurrent tournaments: the Main Tournament and the Scholastic Tournament, and two side events: the Blitz and the Action.

The 54th American Open will be held at the Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa, located at 3050 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. The event will take place on Thursday, November 22 to Sunday, November 25, 2018.

Early bird entry fee is now available for a limited time. This is the only time to get the lowest entry fee for the Main Tournament and the Scholastic Tournament, so don’t miss out.  Sign up by August 31, 2018 to save! Register through Eventbrite

Summer Scholastic Tournament

Ready for some fun in the sun? ChessPalace will be taking the Scholastic tournament to Santa Monica beach on Sunday, July 15, 2018.

There are five Sections:
*Under 1100
*Under 800
*Under 400
*Non-rated section
Time Control: game 30 minutes.

Schedule: 4 rounds
10 AM, 11:15 AM, 1 PM, 2:15 PM

Chess sets are included. Bring notation booklets, pencils, and clocks if applicable. Come prepared with hats, caps, sunscreen, sunglasses, and drinking water.

Registration fee is $35. Register by July 7 to save $5.

This Weekend’s Tournament

The club will be hosting not one, but two tournaments this weekend, Saturday Quad and a Scholastic Tournament on Sunday.

Saturday Quad

There will be 3-rounds for the Saturday quad for a game time of 90 minutes/30 moves ​ then sudden death with additional 30minutes; with 5-second delay. Players are grouped based on most updated rating (not monthly supplement). Award prize monies are based on number of players. First round starts at 11:30  AM.

Entry fee is only $22 (non-members $27; first-time club player $32).

Scholastic Tournament – Sunday

The Scholastic Tournament is open only to children in Kindergarten to 12th grade. Trophies are awarded for the top 3 in each section.

The Details: Round 1 starts at 11:30 AM and game time is 60 minutes for the Open section, and game 30 minutes for the other sections. Entry fee is $35 ($40 for same day/on-site).

Last Spring Scholastic Tournament for 2018

Get your child a scholastic tournament experience before the 2018 school year is over. This Sunday, May 20, 2018, join us at ChessPalace for a Scholastic Tournament, a one-day chess tournament for children in grades Kindergarten to 12th grade.

There will be 4 sections: 1. K-12 Open (3 rounds) 2. K-12 U1200 (4 rounds) 3. K-6 U600 (4 rounds) 4. K-6 U400(4 rounds)

Chess players must have US Chess Federation (USCF) membership to play (membership sign-up or renewal is available on-site at the chess club).

Round 1 will start at 11:30 AM. Awards will start at approximately 4 pm.

Time control: Game 60 minutes in Open K – 12th Grade section, and Game 30 minutes in all other sections.

Trophies will be awarded to the Top 3 winners in each section.

Online registration is $35 and will end on 11:59 pm on May 19th, 2018. Lunch (pizza, chips, and juice) is available for $5.
