
Registration is now open for the 61st American Open Chess Championship – Main Event and Scholastic Tournaments
We’re starting the next decade of the American Open Chess Championship! The 61st American Open will be returning to the beautiful Hyatt Regency Orange County on November 23 – 29, 2026 for a full week of chess! Regular Chess Club Schedule
A. Classical time controls are played during Wednesday Knights tournament. FIVE rounds, with one round played each Wednesday night on: September 2, 9, 16, 23, AND 30. Video lecture at 6:00 pm – 6:50 pm. Rounds starts at 7:00 pm. ($30 entry fee for the month/ Promotional rates for chess club members)
B. Saturday Open Tournaments: Register for any of these weekly tournament on Saturdays: Sept 5, 12, 19, 26 to join other chess players for over-the-board RATED games. Video Lecture at 10:30 am. Round 1 at 11 am. ($30 for the day/discounted for chess club members)
C. Looking for a starter tournament? The Amateur Tournament is for beginners at all ages. The tournament will be on the second Sunday, September 13. Round 1 starts at 12 pm. There is a section for non-rated games and rated games. This event will be at the fun and beautiful outdoor venue at SteelCraft Garden Grove. ($32 entry fee/$45 same day registration)

D. Calling chess players in Kindergarten to 12th Grade! Sign up for the September Scholastic Tournament. This month’s kids tournament is on the fourth Sunday of the month Sunday, September 27– The tournament will be officially rated with results being submitted to the US Chess. Round 1 starts at 10 am. Top 5 trophies for each section! ($50 entry fee/$60 for same day registration)
E. Last but not least, if you’re looking for more OTB (over-the-board) practice, during Thursdays and Fridays, there is Open Play for casual games starting at 6 pm. – Free entry for chess club members/$10 for non-members. Walk-ins welcome!
