June Schedule: Camps, Simuls, and More

Summer is here! Lots of activities this month including Grandmaster lecture (6/14) and Grandmaster Simul (6/29). Additionally, Group lessons for children start this week and Chess Camps start next week.

There are five camp sessions to choose from for Beginners and Intermediate and one session in Jun 16-20 for advance players with 1600+ rating:

Save the Dates for these June Events

A. Grandmaster Simul Exhibition with GM Melik Khachiyan – Sunday June 29 at 1 pm. 15 spots left! Click here to register

B. Grandmaster Lecture on the Ruy Lopez led by GM Batchuluun Tsegmed – Saturday, June 14 at 9:30 am. Perfect idea for a Father’s day outing as well!

C. Saturday Open Tournament: Register for any of these weekly tournament on Saturdays: June 7, 14, 21, and 28 to join other chess players for over-the-board RATED games. Check in at 10:30 am. Round 1 at 11 am.

D. Blitz Tournament Tuesday, June 17  (Round 1 starts at 7 pm) It will be US Chess rated, and the time control is 5 min with no delay! The sign up fee is $15 (advance entry and online registration ends 2 hours before the start of the round), and will be $30 at the door. For ChessPalace members, entry is completely free!

E. Classical time controls are played during Wednesday Knights tournament. Four rounds, with one round played each Wednesday night on: June 4, 11, 18, 25. Rounds starts at 7:00 pm.

F. Looking for a starter tournament or an advance Father’s Day outing idea? The Amateur Tournament is for beginners at all ages. The tournament will be on the second Sunday, June 8. Round 1 starts at 12 pm. There is a section for non-rated games and rated games. Fathers/Grandfathers of participating players can register to play for free. Email us for info! This event will be at the fun and beautiful outdoor venue at SteelCraft Garden Grove.

G. Calling all children in Kindergarten to 12th Grade! Sign up for one, two, or all three Summer Scholastic Tournaments. First one will be on Sunday, June 22– The games will be official rated games with results being submitted to the US Chess Federation. Round 1 starts at 10 am. Top 5 trophies in each section!

Last but not least, if you’re looking for more OTB practice, there is open play during Thursdays’ and Fridays’ Casual Nights starting at 6 pm.  – Free entry for chess club members/$10 for non-members. . Walk-ins welcome!
