Get your calendars ready? February has lots of chess events at the chess club. In addition to the weekly tournaments, we also have a special upcoming event this month!
We will be hosting a Blitz Chess Tournament on Tuesday, February 18th. It’s US Chess rated, and going to be a fast paced competition! Pre-registration is $15 (free for club members), and will be $30 at the door.
Additionally, on February 22, this particular Saturday tournament will be French inspired. We would like registered players to use the French Defense opening 1. e4 e6 to start all their games!
Monthly Tournaments
Amateur Tournament: Starter tournament for beginners at any age on February 9th (SuperBowl Sunday) Rounds starts at 12 pm. *Please note that this tournament is at SteelCraft Garden Grove*
Have the need for speed chess? The Blitz Tournament this month is Tuesday, February 18 (Round 1 starts at 7 pm) at the chess club. Rounds will be US Chess rated, and the time control is 5 min with no delay!
Scholastic Tournament: February 23-The scholastic tournament is for chess players in Grades K – 12th. (US Chess Federation membership is required.) Round starts at 10 am *Please note that this tournament is at SteelCraft Garden Grove*
Weekly Tournaments:
Wednesday Knights: Four rounds, with one round played each Wednesday night on: February 5, 12, 19, AND 26. Rounds starts at 7:00 pm.
Saturday Open: Our weekly Saturday tournament will be on February 1, 8, 15, and 22. Check in at 10:30 AM. Round 1 at 11:00 AM.
Special Saturday Tournament on February 22! Players are encouraged to start their games with the French Defence Opening 1. e4 e6.
Casual Nights: Open Play at the chess club on Thursday and Friday nights. – Free entry for chess club members/$10 for non-members. Play as many games as possible between the hours of 6 pm to 10 pm. Thursdays has a 30-min lecture included at 6:30-7 pm. Walk-ins are welcome! or Click Here to Sign Up
Listen and Learn Lectures
- Grandmaster (GM) Lecture: 9:30 – 10:30 AM on the French Defence, Saturday February 22, 2025.
- There is still room for the Group Lessons for kids. If you want your child to learn to play with their peers, this is the perfect opportunity. We also offer private lessons for kids and Adults on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings. - Wednesday’s Workshops (4:30-6:00 PM): Hear useful ideas to improve your middlegame! This workshop delves into concepts like outposts and good and bad bishops. Gain a deeper understanding of position evaluation and develop the understanding to outmaneuver your opponents. (see flyer below)
- Thursday’s Tips and Tricks (6:30-7 PM): Got a burning chess question you’d like to get answered? Join us on Thursday during casual night for a brief lesson and discussion.
