Nicholas Scarda clinched first place on tie-breaks at Chess Palace’s first scholastic tournament for 2019. Starting at 6th seed, Scarda topped the open section by beating two higher rated opponents and drawing his last game to co-Champion Maxwell Chu.
A total of 44 players in four sections competed.
First place finishers for the sections are:
1. Open: Nicholas Scarda and Maxwell Chu
2. U1200: Three-way tie among Serhat Salik, Brayden Zarefsky, and Darsh Maheshwari
3. U600: Ian Chan
4. U400: Awishkar Shrestha swept the section with a perfect score, 4-0!
The next scholastic tournament will be held on the last Sunday of the month on February 24th.
