For beginner players looking to join their first tournament or just wanting more practice tournaments, this monthly event is an opportunity to experience and to practice with tournament rules and etiquette.

This tournament is open to beginners of any age (usually with a US chess or online chess platform ratings of 0 up to 1400).

Players can choose to play in the non-rated or US Chess rated section.

  • For the section of non-rated games, players do not need to have a US Chess Federation profile/membership.
  • For the US Chess rated games section, an active US Chess Federation profile/membership is required and can be applied for in person on the day of the tournament.

Chess boards and pieces will be available for use. If you would like to bring your own, you’re welcome to bring them. If you have a chess clock, please bring it.

Details:

  • Schedule: Onsite Registration and check ins at 11:30 – 11:50 am; Round 1 starts at 12 pm with the tournament ending between 4-5 pm.
  • Sections for rated and non-rated games
  • It would be good to have some familiarity with how to play over-the-board with a chess clock and to understand what touch move and touch capture rules are.
  • Time Control: 30 minutes with 5 seconds delay

    • Medals for first place winners of the non-rated games section
    • Trophies to Top 3 finishers in the rated section(s)
