February at ChessPalace: Events, Tournaments, & Weekly Play

February is packed with chess action at ChessPalace! Whether you’re looking for casual games, competitive tournaments, or a structured weekly series, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a full list of what’s happening so you don’t miss the opportunity to practice and play.

Announcements for this Month

• Presidents’ Day – Drop-In / Casual Play on Monday, February 16 | 1–5 pm | $10 per person
  A great way to enjoy chess on the holiday break—drop in and play with fellow chess enthusiast over the board and in a casual setting.
• Store Closures – Please note that the chess store in Garden Grove will be closed on February 8, February 14/15. Plan ahead if you would like to purchase gifts, books, and equipment. Tournaments will still occur on Saturdays at Cypress and Sunday at SteelCraft Garden Grove.
• New Monday Hours – Starting this February, the chess store will now be open Mondays from 12–6 pm.

B. Wednesday Knights (February Series) – Games are rated with US Chess
A multi-round series for players looking for consistent competitive play. Rounds start at 7 pm every Wednesday.

• Round 1: Wednesday, Feb 4 @ 7 pm
• Round 2: Wednesday, Feb 11
• Round 3: Wednesday, Feb 18
• Round 4: Wednesday, Feb 25

C. Saturday Tournament – Rated games with US Chess; Cash Prizes

• Every Saturday at 11 am

D. Amateur Tournament – Starter tournament for beginners with our without US Chess membership; Trophy or medal awards

• Sunday, February 8 | 12 pm
• A starter-friendly tournament with a non-rated section for non–US Chess members
• Location: SteelCraft Garden Grove (12900 Euclid St.)

E. Scholastic Tournament – Rated tournament for players in Kindergarten to 12th grade

• Sunday, February 22 | 10 am
• Designed for youth players looking to compete and improve.

♟️ Beginner Chess Class for Kids in K-6th grade – Now Taking Registration!

We’re excited to open registration for Beginner Chess starting this February! This class is perfect for children who are new to chess.

• Start Date: Wednesday, February (first session begins Feb 4)
• Time: 4:30 pm
• Duration: 4 sessions (one hour per week)
• Tuition: $130 total

Students will learn fundamental rules, piece identification and movements, and good chess habits in a fun, supportive environment designed especially for young beginners.
