It’s October, and the boards are ready. From first-time players to seasoned tacticians, this month’s events are built to challenge, inspire, and have a little fun along the way. Dive into the lineup below and pick your tournament.
Wednesday Knights – 5 Rounds this month! Wednesday Knights is a tournament for the whole month and will have one round played each Wednesday night on: Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 AND 29. Registration and check in between 6 – 6:30 pm. Each round starts at 7:00 pm. Games will be officially rated.
Saturday Tournament – We have weekly tournaments on Saturdays: Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25. 3-rounds (4 for Under 1000 rating section) to play per day! Round 1 starts at 11 AM. Games are US Chess rated.
Amateur Tournament Oct. 12 – First round starts at 12 pm. (US Chess membership not required.) *Please note that this tournament is at SteelCraft Garden Grove*
Halloween Scholastic Tournament – Have your child dress up in their favorite costume and play chess to earn a trophy! The kids tournament will be on Sunday, October 26. Scholastic tournaments are for chess players in Grades K – 12th. (US Chess Federation membership is required for all sections.) Round 1 starts at 10 am
Casual chess on Thursdays and Fridays – Free for chess club members/$10 for non-members. Play as many games as possible between the hours of 5 pm to 9 pm. Walk-ins welcome! or Click Here to Sign Up
In addition to the club tournament and casual play at the chess club, we are also now taking registrations for the American Open! This year marks the 60th year of this event, with the following list of the tournaments and events chess players can sign up for:
- New Event! Grandmaster Simul Exhibition will be on Friday, Nov. 28 at 6:30 pm.
- Main Tournament – Championship section has NORM possible with 9 rounds over 6-days. Championship, Expert, and Section A will be US Chess and FIDE rated.
- Scholastic Tournaments – Fri, Sat, and Sun
- Chess Camp – Mon, Tues, and Wed
- Blitz Tournament – Saturday night
- Action – G/30 d5 tournament will be on Sunday
- Grandmaster Melik Khachiyan lectures – Saturday and Sunday
