Summer is here and it’s getting hotter day by day here in Orange County. With school over, some of the parents may be wondering what their kids could do this summer. If you are that parent, and if you have a child between 6-14 years old, we have the best fun and learning opportunity for you!
ChessPalace is hosting chess camps, half-day (morning or afternoon!) and full-day sessions for the summer of 2025!
Details about the sessions and how to sign up for the camp are at the end, but here are 3 reasons to join us at chess camps.
1. Playing live games against an opponent
There’s no better way to study chess than by playing with an opponent. There are in-person matches for students whether it’s playing with peers or playing against coaches, and online match ups. Live matches allow the opportunity for immediate feedback, for practicing recall, and increasing understanding through experiential learning.
2. Introductions on how to use learning resources
There are a lot of resources in person and online that help supplement the mastery of chess. In addition to coaching students to increase their understanding of chess and improve their games, we also show them what their available resources are for their independent learning, when, and how to utilize them. We get excited when students start taking initiative of their own chess learning journey. At the end of the week of chess camp, we regularly hear their stories of wanting to get more involved and being interested in improving their skills outside the classroom.
3. Knowledgeable and Experienced Coaches
Even though chess materials can be found online, having an in-person coach provides an active guide in the students learning. Topics are curated to their current levels and presented in a curriculum-based sequence. There is also an immediate feedback to students’ games and answers to their questions as soon as they experience it.
